Quit smoking!

It is a known fact that quitting cigarettes is probably the hardest thing you will have to do in your life. I know people who quit drugs like marihuana and cocaine, others quit alcohol and everyone agrees that quitting cigarettes is the hardest thing to do and it is even harder to quit for good. Some say the reason for this is that when you are addicted to nicotine you also become addicted to other chemicals cigarettes have, others say that the addiction is not only physical but emotional and psychological. There is no definite agreement on the reasons why but they all agree it is tough to do.
Here are some tips that may help you quit and remain away from cigarettes hopefully forever. The first problem is nicotine addiction, it is supposed to leave your body in between ten to fifteen days after your last puff, during that time you will go through cravings and cold turkey much the same as a drug addict goes through. Exercise will help you get rid of the nicotine and other chemicals faster, it will not reduce the cravings but will give you something to do so as not to think about them. Cigarette smokers believe that there are moments during the day when smoking a cigarette is delicious and that the specific cigarette feels better than all the others they smoke during the day.
These are the moments you have to change and the memories or ideas you have to wipe off your mind to start with. The fact is all cigarettes taste the same, terribly. There is no good moment during the day to smoke a cigarette and there never will be a good moment to do it. When you quit it is important that you program your time, especially the time when you sat at home with the paper and a good cup of coffee smoking a cigarette.
Identify those moments when a cigarette supposedly felt great and find something else to do with them.
During those two or three weeks that you will be craving a cigarette, try to stay at home or visit with non-smoking friends. Do not go out to bars or other places where smoking is allowed. Remove from your house anything and everything related to cigarettes, ash trays, matches, lighters, everything that can tempt you must go. Clean your house or apartment, have the curtains laundered, the furniture cleaned and do as much as you can to get rid of the smell of tar and nicotine smoke.
Drink plenty of water, all day every day, it will help to get rid of the toxins you have put into your body. At first you will not enjoy food because your taste buds will still be numb but as the days go by you will start to enjoy food more and you will also be able to smell the flowers around you. Since you are cleaning your body and getting rid of the poison, take the time to change your diet and eating habits, start eating more fruit, fresh vegetables and less fat and carbohydrates. Eating well, resting more and exercising will give a boost to your quitting effort and feeling better with yourself and your body will give you the will to succeed.
Do not quit on a Friday or Saturday, it will not work at all, you will stop smoking for a few hours and then you will go crazy with nothing to do and no cigarettes to occupy your hands. Plan your strategy during the weekend and start on Monday. On Sunday night have a light dinner and go to bed early, stand before the mirror and promise yourself you will do your best to quit and go to bed with your hopes up high. In the morning be positive and avoid thinking or worrying about the process you are in. You are already one step ahead, you have already gone ten or twelve hours without smoking and you already feel better. Take a shower, put on your best dress or suit and splash on your favorite perfume or cologne, have a hearty breakfast and step out the door to face the world.
Do not comment with anyone about your decision to quit smoking, some will help you quit, others will try to bring you down and the rest do not really care. Keep it to yourself, go about your business like you do every day. If you start talking about it, people will start nagging you or watching waiting to find out if you are going to stick to it or not, this will only add pressure to your shoulders. Take it minute by minute, second by second, remember every minute that goes by and every hour that goes by is one less cigarette you smoke and time you add to your future.
Do not worry if people do not notice, soon they will, everything about you will start to change. This is not only about your health in general but even your looks will change. Your hair will shine and your skin will be radiant.
Your voice will regain its normal tone and there will be no more coughing and throat clearing. The horrible smell will leave your hair and clothes and you will be able to enjoy the taste of food once again. Even your energy level will change gradually turning you into a healthy person. Every journey starts with the first step, set small goals for yourself and give yourself a pat on the back when you are victorious.
Quitting gradually does not work, if something, it might make you smoke even more than you already do. Some people say they are not smokers because they only smoke socially or smoke one or two cigarettes per day, this is fools talk, smoking is smoking. Quit at once and throw away all your supplies, go cold turkey feeling better with yourself every second that passes by without putting poison into your lungs.
If for some reason you fail, do not worry, go over the things you did and the things you did not do, pinpoint your mistakes and understand what happened. Once this is done, start again, and again, and again, until you succeed.
Falling and getting up again to continue the fight is the way to go. If it were easy everyone would quit that nasty habit, unfortunately it is very hard and it may take a couple of tries to do it. This is something you must do alone, medication won't help, doctors won't help and nothing else will help it is your decision alone to take because it is your health that is at risk.
